Spacer gifs can be very useful when using tables, especially when you are trying to get something to line up properly. To create the spacer gif, get into Photoshop (or your graphics package of choice) and create a transparent image that is 1 pixel wide by 1 pixel tall. Save it as a gif. Since it is transparent, it will then have whatever color the background has, and you can resize it to any size you want using the height and width tags. Plus, it doesn't take any time at all to download a 1 pixel by 1 pixel image!
